The Friday Mixtape - KLINT 'Nothing Left Of Us' September 12 2014, 0 Comments

Welcome in the weekend with Seventyseven and The Friday Mixtape with this dangerously hypnotic limited free download from the superb KLINT...

Having provided music for films such as the iconic theme from Guy Ritchie's Snatch, David Frankel's The Devil Wears Prada, Martin McDonagh's Seven Psychopaths and most recently George Clooney's The Monuments Men - 'Nothing Left of Us' is KLINT's first full-length feature soundtrack and debut artist album.

13 tracks of hi-octane funk, dusty fingered break beats and smoke weathered paranoid soundscapes sure hit the spot. For 2 weeks only they are giving the album away as a FREE download plus you can also purchase a limited edition CD - follow the links below.

Enjoy the #fridaymixtape...

The Friday Mixtape - Damiano Von Erckert Boiler Room mix July 11 2014, 0 Comments

Its going to be a hot one here in the UK this weekend so get set with the Friday Mixtape & a selection of sleazy, disco-fried house thumpers from Damiano Von Erckert in this Boiler Room, London mix.

Hailing from Germanys Ruhrgebiet district, Damiano von Erckert represents a growing breed of artists not bound by genre specific constraints. Raised near by and now residing in Cologne, his broad interest in a variety of musical spheres started young, growing up under the wing of his father, also a DJ, allowing him to accumulate a varied taste in Soul, Hip Hop, Funk, Afro and Disco, emulating the likes of Willie Hutch, Donny Hathaway, Fela Kuti and Ron Hardy.

A love for the golden era of 70′s, 80′s and 90′s funk, house and soul clearly resonates through his production output and he is quick to credit the likes of Stax, Blue Note, Strictly Rhythm and KDJ as key influences.

His ability to reach back, relish and recreate classic elements, diverting away perhaps from traditional house orientated means, really enhances the authenticity, originality and positivity of his sound that is now starting to gain notoriety amongst his peers.

Check out the Boiler Room (they never disappoint!) and Damiano Von Erckert for more amazing content below.

Enjoy the #fridaymixtape!

The Friday Mixtape Tribute - RIP Frankie Knuckles April 04 2014, 0 Comments

A very special Seventyseven Friday Mixtape this week as we pay tribute to music legend Frankie Knuckles who sadly passed away this week.

Here we proudly present a classic 2013 live DJ set from the Kingdom Nightclub, Texas courtesy of Resident Advisor for your enjoyment...

Few contemporary music figures have influenced their respective fields the way Frankie Knuckles - the man most commonly known as the ‘Godfather of House Music’ - has revolutionized dance music.

Playing a pivotal role in the creation & evolution of House music - ‘disco's revenge’ was the way Frankie Knuckles mischievously described the pioneering style of music that was born in the late 70’s at the famous Warehouse Club in Chicago. It was a raw, machine-driven, four-to-the-floor sound that Knuckles helped shape, that went on to become a huge force in popular music over the next 30 years.

Blasting energy throughout dance clubs worldwide and becoming one of the most sought after re-mixers in music Frankie went on to work with some of the biggest names in music - including Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, Diana Ross and even found a fan in Barack Obama.

RIP Frankie Knuckles

The Friday Mixtape - Turntable Soul Music with Belleruche March 28 2014, 0 Comments

It’s Friday afternoon and you can almost smell the weekend which can mean only one thing - it’s time for the ‘Seventyseven Friday Mixtape' once again.

This weeks free audio is a real treat...

London band Belleruche is made up of Kathrin deBoer (vocals), Ricky Fabulous (guitar) and DJ Modest (decks); the band was formed after Ricky and Modest, who played bizarre turntable and guitar sets in London bars, bumped in to Kathrin in the market one day; she did some singing over a cup of tea with the pair and Belleruche was born.

The trio’s distinctive sound is a self-styled brand of handmade hip hop blues soul: think Sarah Vaughan, Django Reinhardt and Cut Chemist stuck in a lift with Russian beer and a sampler.

The Belleruche Family are now also experimenting with solo projects so be sure to keep an eye out as hopefully some samples of their solo projects may land in our inbox soon!

Nostalgia 77, aka Ben Lamdin, first burst onto the scene with his heavy, new funk based sound in 2002. His hard work and prolific creation process has led to the release of many outstandingly high quality albums, containing a diverse and varied fusion of styles and influences from more mellow, solemn, moody yet beautiful offerings to more upbeat, heavy funk, hip-hop based beats mixed with dusty old jazz, obscuro funk and psych bits and pieces. This hard work ethic, gifted writing talent and dedication to his music contributed towards Ben winning the ‘Jazz Album of the Year’ award at the ‘Gilles Peterson BBC Worldwide Awards’ in 2006.

‘A Journey Too Far’ the fifth studio LP under his main Nostalgia 77 moniker finds Ben further developing his creative partnership with rising German singer Josa Peit, whose rich, quirky lead vocals grace nine of the 11 tracks; with country-soul supremo Jeb Loy Nichols (Island) singing the remaining two in his loose and charismatic style
